Phit-right
At times over the next few weeks, lawmakers in Washington, D.C. will likely vote for so-called PHIT Act – Personal Health Investment Today Act. If permitted:
- Families can spend up to $2000 per year on Health Spending Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for physical activity expenses such as gym memberships, recreational sports fees, fitness equipment and/or training classes.
- By using tax-free dollars in HSAs and FSAs in this way, taxpayers can save 20-30% on their annual physical activity costs. It would also lead to more active, happier, healthier, and wealthier Americans.

It may be now or never
For over 10 years, Anytime Fitness and other wellness advocates have been trying to pass the PHIT test. Unfortunately, lawmakers in Washington, D.C., failed to pass it, citing PHIT's impact on federal tax revenues. In fact, PHIT would only cost 1/1000th of 1% of the annual federal budget over 10 years – and long-term health care costs would far exceed those costs.
The time is now. Never before has PHIT been so close to passage. Let your voice be heard. Please contact your member of Congress today.
